izzy's...

This is really a note to myself to go there in the near future and partake in their skirt steak.  I used to live a few doors down from Izzy's on Steiner between Chestnut & Lombard.

dennis allen...

I have to write this fucking guy is in over his head.  He talks a good game on the Silver & Black show, but you are what your record shows.  He's 8-22 as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders.

I was witness in person to the shellacking the Philadelphia Eagles gave to the Raiders last month 49-20 with Birds QB Nick Foles tying an NFL record by throwing 7 TD passes.

This head coach is supposed to be a defensive specialist and last Sunday the Kansas City Chiefs scored 56 points against Oakland.  The highest total in the NFL this season.

He needs to be fired.  Simply said.

jason garrett...

25-24 record as head coach of the Cowboys.

His record indicates he's an average to mediocre head coach.

This season Garrett relinquished his offensive play calling duties to Bill Callahan?   Another mediocre coach.   41-41 as a head coach for the Raiders and Nebraska.

My prediction Garrett, offensive coordinator Callahan and defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin will be fired after this season.

It seems to me Jerry Jones doesn't really care about winning anymore.  He cares about making money.

An example- Notre Dame played Arizona State at his stadium on Saturday.  Jones probably made a mint off of that game.

tony romo...

Never have been a fan.

He had the best game I've seen him play up until that interception.   And I knew that interception would happen.  I just knew it.

Denver has a terrible defense.  Don't understand why defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio is being considered for the USC head coaching job?

And to go off topic a bit-  Monte Kiffin should retire.  He hasn't been a decent defensive coordinator in years.  Dallas also has a terrible defense.

The NFC East was so bad that 2-3 is leading the division with Philly ahead of the Cowboys with same mediocre record because both of the Birds wins are in the division.

Don't understand why Jerry Jones has so much faith in Romo?

Romo has one career playoff victory and is being paid like he's won a couple of Super Bowls.   Don't get it?

8-8 might win the NFC East.

This is really the year that Romo could actually earn his paycheck with some playoff wins, but it ain't gonna happen.

In the end, Romo will be Romo and will fuck by throwing an interception or fumble when it really counts.

Throwing for 500 plus yards with 5 TD and scoring 48 points doesn't mean a thing when your team loses.   There's no moral victories, unless you're Jacksonville.

1 california bus...

I fucking hate it!!!  With a passion!!!!

Yet it's essential for me to get home at times.

The hill to Nob Hill is steep on California from Embarcadero 3.

endings...

They're no fun, but just a part of life.

One thing I've learned is- if there are many things I don't like about a person and the positives don't dominate the negatives, than it's time to move on.

Just moving on can be the difficult part...

tu lan...

The famous Vietnamese restaurant on Sixth St near Market in the City just reopened after being closed for about a year.

Had to have some of their famous shrimp fried rice.

Verdict: HORRIBLE!!!!

It's just not the same.  It didn't taste the same and they use smaller and flavorless shrimp now.  Very, very bad...

I know there is growing pains when a joint reopens, but they were open for over 30 years and the same cooks were back.

NY won't be back.

Life is about change...

august in the city...

There is so much to do in San Francisco in the wonderful month of August.

Today there's the Family Winemakers of California Tasting 2013 at the Festival Pavilion in Fort Mason.

From 1-5.   $70 at the door.

I've attended in the past and I've thoroughly enjoyed it.

Family winemakers' tasting are wineries that produce 5000 cases are less.

Also, there's an Urban Air Market in the Dogpatch pier 70.  11am-6pm.

Never been, therefore I really don't know what to expect.

It's over a 100 local vendors.  There will be food trucks and a beer & wine garden.

Just getting back into the swing of things with this blog...

a time to blog...

Out of the blue, a reader sent me an email asking me why I don't blog anymore?

I really don't have a decent answer, other than being lazy.

Okay, I just tried a pink pearl apple.  Never heard of that type of apple.  It's inside is actually pink.  The outside is yellow.  It's very tart.

Pretty boring post, but what the hell?

More coming...

masao abe...

Tuesday August 7, 2013 was a sad day.   A World War II war hero passed away.  He was highly decorated and received a Purple Heart among other medals.   In 2012, Masao Abe received the Congressional Medal of Honor, almost 70 years after his WW2 duty.  What an honor!

I used to marvel at seeing his Purple Heart and his two Bronze Stars.

He was my neighbor in Seattle.   He was my friend's father.   He was a great man and I was extremely sad when he passed.

writing more on this blog...

I told a friend of mine that I was going to start writing again on my blog yesterday.

Here we go: Last night I met a young lady who just got married on Monday at a bar in Honolulu overlooking Waikiki Beach. She was there on her honeymoon and just got into a fight with her husband.

I noticed she wasn't wearing her wedding room. She said that she went swimming and left it in her room. That sounded like a valid reason to me.

Long story short. I just listened to her. She said her husband didn't listen to her and that he thought he was always right.

I hope going forward her husband listens to her and becomes more realistic about himself. He's lucky to have her.

paul kurata...

He passed away in the early morning on April 14, 2013, a Sunday. He was 85.

He was my Aunt's husband.

Hadn't seen him in over two years. The last time I saw him I dropped him off at the Venetian in Vegas after he took me and my father to dim sum near LV's odd Chinatown. Orchid's Garden- which by the way, has very good dim sum.

He looked good and fit at that time. However, me and my dad were amused that he thought he was 84, when in fact he was 83 at the time. I recall saying to him, "you don't need to add any more years to your age, hell I don't either!"

I didn't have a chance to say goodby to Uncle Paul, yet he will always be in my thoughts...

He was generous and gave me chances that I probably didn't deserve.

I want to thank him and I will always have respect for him.

Rest in peace Uncle Paul...

japan wbc team...

Very disappointed they lost to Puerto Rico on Sunday night. I was there. Bought a Japan fitted cap. Paid only $8 to get in. Felt like PacBell Park circa 2000.

Japan had zero MLB players, but they were 2 time defending champions- 2004 and 2009.

mccarran airport...

It sucks! Especially, the A,B, and C Terminals! The new Terminal which Virgin Air flys to is decent, but no comparison to Terminal 2 at SFO.
