member appreciation party @ sportsclub la/sf...

I must commend the GM Victoria McGrath and her assistant/events coordinator Thiana Mai for doing a wonderful job of planning the shindig... It was one of the best parties I have attended @ the club. And let me reiterate, some of the events in the past have not been to my liking.

All and all, I had a great time!

wine review...

Rosenblum, yes another Rosenblum review. Hell, I'm a wine club member and I really do like their wine.

Rosenblum 2005 Appellation Series Zinfandel North Coast. I like how on the back of the label, you can tear off a small square that is basically a miniature label for future reference. I've never noticed this before...

The zin retails for $18. I bought it for half price @ a special wine event @ Rosenblum in Alameda a few weeks ago.

All I'm going to say it's a silky smooth zin. And I'm not a shill for Rosenblum...

roger clemens...

He picked the wrong chick to fuck around with. Mindy McCready has had more than her share of troubles in the past four or so years. In a nutshell, she's a head case! The publicity will only help Mindy in her comeback attempt. I'm guessing she probably leaked the info about Clemens to get her back into the public eye.

I really don't give a shit whether Clemens took steroids and HGH. Every baseball player during that era took the juice. I just don't like Clemens' holier than thou attitude. Admit it and go on with your life!!!

larry brown...

Whether he gets the Charlotte job or not, I'm going on record and say the guy is done. Like Bobby Knight, the game has passed him by.

I'm tired of hearing him say about playing basketball the right way. What the fuck happened with the Knicks? It sure wasn't just Isiah Thomas screwing everything up...

Brown won the title @ Kansas and with the Pistons, his legacy is set. He's through...

writing a blog...

I don't know if it's the font or not, but every time I post, I'm fairly happy with the outcome. That's why it's so important to just write. It's like shooting baskets, to get good @ it, one must work hard...

As for my reviews of yelp.com- I've lost my luster and I just don't give a fuck! This is my blog, therefore I should give a fuck!

lost my mojo...

Up until I left for Honolulu on March 11th, I was blogging every fucking day. Now I have difficult getting inspired... From this day forward, I will force myself to post everyday, no matter what!

Consistency really is a very important aspect of life...

niners round 1 and 2 draft picks...

I can't fault the desire to address needs on the defense and the offensive line, but where is a receiver? DeSean Jackson of CAL should have been their 2nd round pick. I know the guy is small and could be a head case, but he's an impact player. As I've composing this post, DeSean still hasn't been picked. When Jackson declared for the draft, he was considered a top 15 pick. What the hell happened?

oakland a's...

To me, it's still basketball season, therefore I haven't really taken the time to study box scores or watch a game. I am a Giants fan, but I like the recent moves Oakland has made in the last few days. Rajai Davis was a great pickup from the Giants and getting the Big Hurt back, that's if he can still hit, may keep the A's competitive in the West.

wikipedia...

One comment- it's a fucking joke!

real housewives of new york city revisited...

Again, I am disappointed in myself for watching the fucking show! I must admit that I've always had a fascination with New York City... I'm curious how much the housewives got paid to be on Bravo?

As I mentioned in the previous post, I thought Bethenny Frankel came across fairly well, except her jawline looks as if she's taken steroids in her life and her cue ball boyfriend is as boring as watching curling... I've heard he lost job on Wall Street for his appearance on the show.

The Countess not wanting to be introduced to a driver by her first name is very pretentious. And her voice is lower than mine and I have a deep voice...

The social climbing couple is a joke. The husband is a GM of a boutique hotel in Manhattan and she's works @ Victoria Secrets in a visual display capacity and live in a dump in Brooklyn. Their haughtiness is nauseating and her nude photos actually hurt my eyes...

Ramona is the biggest bitch of the bunch. I like Jill Zarin, but her voice just makes me cringe!

No more posts about these C U next tuesdays...

quasi celebrity sighting...

Peggy Fleming in Los Gatos planning the reopening of the tasting room for her Fleming-Jenkins winery. For someone who's pushing 60 and is a breast cancer survivor she looks phenomenal! Then again, dancers and figure skaters usually always look great for their age...

I can't wait for the tasting room to reopen on May 1st...

one more post about baron davis...

Through a source of mine, I heard he was hungover from a birthday celebration the night before the Phoenix game. It was his 29th birthday- big fucking deal! I think the kid had more than a few parties celebrating his "29th" birthday. What the fuck? It was totally irresponsible to show up for a crucial game still reeking of alcohol...

I still fault Don Nelson for not playing him. It's time to give Keith Smart a chance to coach the Warriors.

johnny walker event @ fort mason...

Getting an opportunity to sip a bit of blue was worth rushing over to Fort Mason after an event @ Macys earlier in the evening. I did not like the fact that there were only two bartenders to serve a couple hundred of people before the presentation. Simply ridiculous!

The presentation was fabulous! I learned that gold served chilled is quite nice and red with coke is refreshing. I'm a black guy, meaning I usually partake in black on the rocks. I'm not really into the green which is a blend of many, many single malts.

I'm a loyal Johnny Walker customer...

real housewives of new york city...

I'm disappointed in myself for actually watching this stupid reality series, because I couldn't stomach more than a few minutes of the Orange County version...

The one so-called housewife out of the not fabulous five who will actually make out best in this series is Bethenny Frankel and she isn't even married. And she could definitely parlay a Playboy shoot out of this mediocre series... Her bald boyfriend has a much personality as a wet noodle. Apparently, he was the one who wanted to be on reality television?

I'm not going waste my time writing about the other wenches.

single malt whiskey review...

St. George single malt whiskey distilled from barley malt mash. 43% alcohol by volume. The color is quite light, a little darker than a white wine. The nose is sweet, perhaps a hint of citrus. The finish has cinnamon characteristics. I believe this batch is eight years old... This Alameda based distillery produces some great spirits. A half bottle is pricey for $30, especially when I can get a full bottle of Balvenie Doublewood for about $10 more...

warriors out of the playoffs...

Why the fuck didn't Baron Davis play in the second half against the Suns? Did he get into it with Nelson during halftime? The Warriors came back from a large first half deficit to lead by over ten and they fucking blow it! BD definitely could have helped especially in the 4th quarter. I've had enough of Don Nelson. I really hope he goes back to Maui and gets fatter and sloppier... Golden State needs a new coach who will play young players. He's done...

seattle supersonics...

I grew up in Seattle and they were the first major professional franchise in the Emerald City. I've been somewhat indifferent to the proposed move to Oklahoma City since I've been living in the Bay Area for many years... Now, I feel saddened that this move will probably happen. I'm going to lose a part of my youth...

The Mariners and the Seahawks have beautiful venues, it just astounds me that the Sonics can't have a new arena?

chocolate festival @ fort mason...

Man, I'm definitely overdosed on chocolate! And there was 80% Asians @ this tasting. My favorite XOX was there. Trader Joe's is really an advocate of chocolate consumption. I enjoyed their chocolate covered sunflower seeds. TJ's actually gave me a whole container along with a container of chocolate covered espresso beans.

quasi celebrity sighting...

Director Wayne Wang @ Peets on Fillmore and Sacramento. The guy has really aged... Quite frankly, I haven't liked too many of his films since CHAN IS MISSING.

I'll always remember seeing him on the Golden Gate bridge during the 50th anniversary celebration. Man, it was crowded!

word of the day...

CONTRARIAN- a person who opposes or rejects popular opinion. Going against current practice. Quite frankly, I don't know if I'll ever use this word in my everyday conversation or writing- we'll just have to see. While reading a New York Times review on the new film SMART PEOPLE, CONTRARIANISM was used to describe Ellen Page's character. Regarding most studio films, I consider myself a CONTRARIAN. SMART PEOPLE also stars Dennis Quaid and Sarah Jessica Parker.

wine review...

Rosenblum Cellars 2005 Lodi Syrah Abba Vineyard- very nice! The nose has chocolate characteristics. Wow! I let it breathe for awhile(@ least 30 minutes) and it's silky smooth. When I first opened the bottle, it had a blueberry fragrance. I'm not even using a cheat sheet. Fantastic finish...

closing businesses...

During the past month, I've seen many businesses shutdown ... I bought a very nice pair of shorts @ the Local Motion in Waikiki and about a week later, the location was closed. There was a korean restaurant a couple blocks away from my parents' condo when I first arrived in Honolulu and before I left, that spot now houses a spa. Perry's on Sutter Street near Union Square just closed. Aloha Airlines went out of business while I was in Hawaii. ATA shutdown the day I returned to the mainland. The list goes on and on...

ucla's loss to memphis...

Yes, I was disappointed, but when Mbah a Moute takes more shots than Love, Collison, and Shipp- you're going to lose. You could say Memphis gave him the shots, but I watched the game and it looked like he forced more than a few...

And as I was viewing the game, I was thinking to myself- where's the offense from the Bruins? Ben Howland is a good coach, but his offensive schemes are horrible! Westbrook was only Bruin who had the athleticism to be able create his own shot against the Tigers.

Love, Collison, and Shipp should think more than twice about leaving early for the NBA. Love is the most NBA ready, but he could use another season to work on his conditioning. Collison will get eaten up by guards in the Association. Shipp isn't an NBA player.

Memphis in the past week has diminished the NBA value of Drew Neitzel of Michigan State, D. J. Augustin of Texas, and of course Collison. Mario Chalmers of Kansas will be the next victim...

21...

Based on the book "Bringing Down the House" by Ben Mezrich. I believe the film should have been called BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE as opposed to 21... I realize there was a Queen Latifah film with the same name five years ago, but many movies have had the same name- one example is THE BEST MAN. There's over ten listings on imdb.com.

Without a doubt the book was better. The unknown actor playing the lead character will probably remain an unknown...

back in the city...

I'm still tired from taking a redeye from HNL to LAX with a short layover, before flying back to SFO... I just wasn't inspired enough to blog very often from Honolulu. I hope to get my writing mojo back?
