gary payton...

Great NBA career. Not articulate at all. He has no business being on Jim Rome's new show on Showtime.

Can't speak well. His logic is bad. He's fucking dumb.

david akers...

Akers had a great year kicking for the Niners in 2011.  This season he's been mediocre and I believe San Francisco needs to replace him.  However, I just don't get the idiot who threatened Akers' life via twitter.  It's a shame that people use the micro blog site to post death threats and just fucking stupid shit.

Used correctly, twitter is a great tool, but too many people use it in a hateful manner which is terrible...

hiroyuki nakajima...

I'm a Giants fan, yet a fan of the A's to a lesser degree. Very happy to see Nakajima sign with Oakland to be their everyday shortstop.

Nakajima is 30 and an 8 time All-Star and 3 time Golden Glover. .302 lifetime batting average in 11 seasons with the Seibu Lions.

I hope Hiroyuki does well? Kaz Matsui played for Seibu and was a superstar in Japan as a shortstop before signing with the Mets. Kaz had his moments, but was injury prone during his major league career that was a bit of a disappointment after high expectations.

The last touted shortstop from Japan Tsuyoshi Nishioka was a washout with the Minnesota Twins.

One thing that angers me with the San Francisco Giants is they rarely pursue Japanese players. Shinjo and Yabu don't count.

Go A's!

anger...

It's probably taken me too long to realize, but anger is an emotion that I want to try to eliminate from my life.  I realize that it's probably improbable, yet it's something I will strive for.

making the right decisions...

Choice is something we have in this world.  Unfortunately, I've made some bad decisions or choices in my life.

Making mistakes is part of life, but I really need to make the right decisions going forward in life...

wisconsin vs stanford rose bowl...

8-5 vs 11-2. On paper Stanford should win and I expect them to win, but the Badgers just annihilated favored and 12th ranked Nebraska 70-31 in the Big Ten Championship game. All-America running back Montee Ball ran for 201 yards and 3 TD. His back field mates Melvin Gordon and James White rushed for 217 and 109. Gordon had a touchdown with White scoring 4 TD. That's over 500 yards rushing.

Stanford has to shore up their run defense to defeat Wisconsin and I believe they will.

pat haden...

Is he deluded?  The ex-USC QB and current athletic director for the Trojans is drinking the Baby Kiffin Kool-Aid.  He's 150% behind his petulant punk coach.  I can't believe it?  I thought Pat Haden was a Rhodes Scholar?  I thought he had more sense?

USC is on their way to a 5-6 loss season after being touted as a preseason #1.  They have a ton of talent.  WR Marquis Lee is one of the finest receivers I've seen in my lifetime.   The Trojans can basically recruit any blue chip player they want.

Their problem is their head coach.  He's a fucking idiot!  The lucky fuck who has gotten high paying coaching jobs in which he had no business getting.

Pat Haden is burying himself in a deep hole for himself by standing behind that moron.  And he may never be able to climb out of it...

guy fieri...

Never tried any of his 7 restaurants in NorCal, nor will I ever.  Okay, never say never for a free meal, but that ain't gonna happen.

His new Times Square restaurant was scathed by the NY Times restaurant reviewer.  Very entertaining review and the comments on the nytimes website are classic!

I admit I watch Triple D from time to time and I have tried a few of the places on the show.  One being The Mad Greek in Baker, CA in the desert on the way to Vegas off of 15.  Not a good place.  Been there two or three times.

The review of Fieri's store in Times Square is so bad and the Today Show gave him an opportunity to respond to that review giving him tons of free publicity, I fear that it's going to be a boon for him.

The sad thing in this world due to reality tv- one doesn't need to be talented to make it in this society, they just needs balls...  And if any ladies are reading this blog, I don't mean actual balls, but the fake confidence in believing the bullshit you're selling will sell to the American public.

mike d'antoni...

New coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.  It helps he coached Steve Nash in Phoenix and as a young kid in Italy- Kobe Bryant idolized D'Antoni who was a superstar in that country.  The question is whether head case Dwight Howard will take to his coaching?

carly fiorina...

She has no business being on Meet the Press.  She's a failed CEO of Hewlett Packard and a failed US Senator candidate.   She's disgusting...

tsunami warnings...

It's a good thing that people are warned well beforehand if a tsunami may be on its way.  However,  in the case of Hawaii, it seems like every time there's a warning, nothing happens.  Sure, you just never know the forces of nature, but there must be a better system of tsunami preparedness.  Just off the top of my head, a Halloween Party was cancelled in downtown Honolulu because of the tsunami warning last night.  I heard the sirens last night, but being in a building well over the 4 floors, I really wasn't concerned.  As I wrote before, nothing happened and I'm sure businesses lost of a ton of money last night...

Retired colonel and chief of staff to former Secretary of State Colin Powell.  I like the guy!

john elway...

Okay, the first presidential debate is being held in Denver on Wednesday.  However, I don't understand why Elway would endorse Romney in public at a rally?  The guy should focus on Peyton Manning and making sure the Broncos win.

Denver had a player last year who was polarizing by showcasing his religious beliefs.  Now, an executive who is a Hall of Famer and won two Super Bowls with Denver has thrown his political beliefs in the forefront.

Sports and politics don't mix...

miguel cabrera...

First, let's not mistake him for suspended Melky Cabrera who has voluntarily taken himself out of consideration for the National League batting title.  Melky's .346 is ten points higher than Andrew McCutchen of the declining Pittsburgh Pirates.  When I saw the Pirates play in San Diego on August 20, they were something like 13 games over .500, now they are 3 games under .500.

Anyway, lets get to Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers is on the verge of winning the Triple Crown in the American League.  Miguel is tied with Josh Hamilton of Texas with 42 home runs and is leading the league in batting average .332 and RBI with 131.  A Triple Crown constitutes leading the league in home runs, runs batted in, and batting average.  The last time a player won the Triple Crown was 1967, by the great Carl Yastrzemski of the Boston Red Sox, more commonly known as Yaz.   Yaz had 44 home runs, 121 RBI and batted .326.  Very similar to Miguel Cabrera's current numbers and Miguel has 12 games left in the regular season.

Rookie sensation Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels led the AL in batting for what seemed like virtually the whole season, but has slowed down as of late, but I wouldn't count him out at .325.   Trouts batting average has dropped about 20 points in the past month.

I'd really like to see Miguel Cabrera win the Triple Crown.  45 years is a long time to wait for another Triple Crown...

yunel escobar...

Shortstop for the Toronto Blue Jays suspended only 3 games for wearing eye blacks with "maricon" written on it.  Apparently, it wasn't a day that eye blacks were necessary and a picture of Escobar on that fated day shows he also had sunglasses on the brim of his cap.

I live in Cali and I have heard latinos calling each other "maricon" in jest.  I know it's a derogatory term against gays.

What was Escobar thinking?  Now Escobar says he has gay friends and a matter of fact,  his hairstylist is gay.  He said he was joking and among latinos it's generally accepted to use that word.  Again, I heard it amongst latinos many times, but to write it on an eye black is fucking stupid!

Latin ballplayers make up a good percentage of major league baseball, but unfortunately they have been caught using performance enhancing drugs and suspended more than american ball players.

Baseball needs to educate these players more about PEDs and the social implications of calling each words that are hurtful to gays.

I'm sure messages written on eye blacks will be banned by MLB, like the NFL since Tebow was writing religious messages on them.

55...

That's the amount of electoral votes the state of California has.   270 is needed to win the Presidential election.  358 total electoral votes.

curt menefee...

That fat fuck studio host on the NFL on Fox keeps calling San Francisco- San Fran.  It's pissing me off!  Doesn't a producer have the right mind to tell that idiot Menefee that it's unacceptable to call San Francisco- San Fran?  It's only acceptable to call San Francisco- the City and San Francisco...

clint eastwood...

I was looking forward to seeing his new film- now I won't pay a dime to see it.  I really don't understand why he chose to speak at the Republican convention?

dennis allen...

The new head coach of the Oakland Raiders.   No head coaching experience.  Only one year as a defensive coordinator- which was last year with Denver.  This kid is in over his head.  The Raiders will be a sub .500 team this season.

melky cabrera...

Last Saturday, I spent a ridiculous amount of money for a standing room only ticket to see the Giants against the Rockies, just to secure a Virgin America 2 for 1 coupon for my upcoming trip to San Diego.  To my dismay, the coupon didn't work until the 22nd of August and my trip commences on the 18th.

One thing I noticed was a bunch of idiots wearing milkman outfits in honor of Melky Cabrera.  To me, they looked ridiculous.  I would have rather seen babes in milk lady costumes.

I've followed Melky's career and I thought he was a decent player, but not an upper tier player.  I was surprised he did so well with the Kansas City Royals last season and I was lukewarm about the Giants trading for him.

He surprised the hell out of me this season and only recently did I accept he was a legitimate star and now this- getting suspended for 50 for using performance enhancing drugs.  A friend of mine predicted he was on the juice and I kind of agreed with him.

The fable of this story is when it something seems suspicious, it usually is...

starbucks...

Not a fan of their coffee. I'm a Peet's guy.

I received a free cup of Starbucks in the mail. Free is great, but I can't even finish the cup because it's so bad in my view.

I'm a true coffee drinker who drinks it black without sugar.

lefty day...

This is so insignificant, but today, August 13th is Lefty Day.  To celebrate the pros and cons of being a left-hander.

usain bolt...

Bolt has to be considered the greatest sprinter of all-time.  Usain entered the London Olympics with question marks whether his time has passed.  That all changed when he won the 100 meters in 9.63 which is an Olympic record- the second fastest time in history.   On Thursday, Bolt won the 200 meters in 19.32.  Usain has now won gold medals in the 100 and 200 in consecutive Olympics, which has never been done before.   And Jamaica should win a gold in the 4X100 meter relay which they won in Beijing.

Bolt is only 25 and could be a factor in the 2016 Olympiad in Rio De Janeiro.

Wednesday, August 8, 2012

lolo jones...

I have to put in my two cents regarding an over hyped hurdler who came in 4th in the 100 meter hurdles at the Olympics.  I saw a piece on Lolo on HBO's Real Sports and came out with the impression that she was going to win a gold in London.  Little did I know, she wasn't even the best hurdler on the USA team.   Two Americans including the defending Olympic Champion Dawn Harper and Kellie Wells qualified ahead of Jones in the USA Olympic Trials.

Sally Pearson, the favorite from Australia won the gold medal with Harper and Wells winning the silver and bronze.   Lolo ran her fastest time of the year, but it wasn't good enough.

Lolo Jones was the 4th best in the world yesterday, nothing to sneeze at, but the way the media hyped her, she was heads and shoulders above the crowd...

ichiro...

Although, he's definitely in the twilight of his career, I'm pleased that Ichiro Suzuki was traded from the Seattle Mariners to the New York Yankees.   This gives him an opportunity to get a ring- a World Series ring...

Now, the Yankees have two Japanese players- Ichiro and pitcher Hiroki Kuroda.   And they have Kosuke Fukudome on their AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre roster.

mark jackson...

Just listened to an interview with the Warriors coach during a Golden State summer league game.  He's still full of shit and he'll always be full of shit...

At least the idiot didn't predict the Ws are going to make the playoffs.  Even if Bogut plays a injury free season, which is very questionable- the Warriors will have a difficult time making the playoffs.  Even if the soft Curry is healthy, Golden State will have a hard time making the playoffs.

fred willard...

First of all, I didn't know they still had theaters that showed straight porn?  The Tiki Theater in LA apparently still does and Fred Willard was caught with his pants down.

Quite frankly, I can't remember a theater showing porn for decades, perhaps since the eighties.   Doesn't Willard have a computer?  A laptop?  An Ipad?

Doesn't Willard have a DVD player?  Or how about a VHS player?  Beta?

houston rockets...

Their roster is in a bit of disarray, but from the looks of the Rockets 4-1 NBA Summer League showing in Vegas, there is much to look forward to.  Houston's 3 first-round picks all showed flashes-  Jeremy Lamb, Royce White, and Terrence Jones.  I believe the Rockets picked up a free agent gem in point guard Scott Machado from Iona.  Machado could be a decent backup to Jeremy Lin.  It also looks as if Josh Harrellson, Lin's teammate last season with the Knicks could also play some quality minutes next season.

Saturday, July 14, 2012

jeremy lin...

It looks like JLin will be a Houston Rocket once again.  It really is a better situation for him than the Knicks with their skeptical head coach and Iso-Melo the ball hog.   However, there is no place like New York, Manhattan.

If the Rockets can somehow wrangle Dwight Howard from the Magic, even if it's only for one season- Houston will be a fun team to watch.

amazing...

I'm fucking sick and tired of hearing that word.  The only real time it was appropriate is when the Mets won the World Series in 1969= the Amazing Mets!

I just viewed the Adam Richman's Best Sandwiches in America and the guy said "amazing" in three straight sentences.  He used it at least four times in the show.  Don't get me wrong, I like watching the guy, but please cut down on the use of amazing...

filet of fish...

A favorite of mine from Mickey D's- now more so since I don't eat red meat for the time being.

380 calories. 170 fat calories.

Not the best thing in the world for you....

I get depressed reading labels of foods I consume

Rest assured, I don't eat a filet of fish very often.

sf bathrooms...

My standby on the second floor of the Le Meridien Hotel which was formerly called the Park Hyatt.

Clean and spacious. Been using the restrooms there for about 30 years.

jeremy lin...

I believe the only way he won't succeed in the league is if injury curtails his basketball career.  He's on the verge of signing a contract that will set him up for the rest of his life.  Plus, his endorsement potential earnings could surpass his contract with the Rockets or Knicks, if they match Houston's offer.

Jeremy will be guaranteed almost $20M for the first three years of his deal with an option for year four which is for $9.3M.  The total value of the contract he's verbally agreed with the Rockets is $28.9M.

JLin potentially could make another $100M or so playing in the NBA after his playing career is over.

I really look forward to next season...

mitch lawrence...

He's a fucking idiot columnist for the New York Daily News.   He just wrote an article criticizing the signing of Jason Kidd at the advanced age of 39 for a point guard.  39 is old for any position in basketball.

I have followed Jason Kidd's career since his high school days where I saw him play live to win a couple state championships in Cali., Oakland to be exact.  Kidd will do okay next season mentoring Jeremy Lin if the Knicks match the Houston Rocket's offer sheet.

This Lawrence dumbshit still is a hater.  He first writes that Jeremy Lin is a backup who will make an outrageous amount of money.   The Knicks and MSG have made something like $300M off of Linsanity.  Even if Jeremy doesn't pan out- he still will be worth every penny the organization pays him and then some.  And Jeremy Lin is a starter, not a backup.

Then this fucking numbskull writes that Jeremy Lin isn't good enough.  Good enough for what?  This kid endured three different teams and four different coaches last season.  Four different systems.  Well, he didn't get any chance with the Warriors since they waived him the first day of training camp and that imbecile Mark Jackson had the gall to say that he never saw him play.  The guy had six months to study tape and he never did.  And he didn't get a chance in Houston, which had three point guards with guaranteed contracts when they signed Jeremy and subsequently waived him and now all three of the point guards are gone(Lowery, Dragic, and Flynn).

Lin flourished under D'Antoni's system and did well in Woodson's bullshit boring system featuring ball hog and isolation dick Carmelo Anthony.

Unless Jeremy gets hurt, he's more than good enough.  Those sportswriters for tabloid papers like the New York Daily News aren't good enough- especially this Mitch Lawrence prick...

delonte west...

One of the biggest odd fellows in the NBA.  West was recently quoted, "Looking for a team to pay me what I'm worth, not a cent more."   He probably meant not a cent less...

As big as a head case Delonte may be, he's still a good player who is best as a combo guard off the bench.

anderson cooper...

He came out of the closet today. Good for him. It really wasn't a big secret that he's gay.

I like him as a newsman. His talk show isn't to my liking. Anderson would have been a better choice to team up with Kelly Ripa on Live With Kelly- replacing Regis Philbin.

a.m. bun @ baker & baker...

Simply phenomenal! Better than the morning bun at that joint on Guerrero and 18th. That one is overrated.

Thursday, June 28, 2012

mark jackson...

I never thought he deserved to get the head coaching job with the Warriors without any previous coaching experience and most importantly, no head coaching experience at all...

Now, the story comes out that he was extorted by a stripper who he met at a strip club in New York and had an affair with six years ago.  The kicker is that he text messaged pictures of his cock to her.  What a fucking idiot!!!!

According to the The Smoking Gun,  Jackson offered the stripper and her co-extorter $200K.

The guy is a co-pastor with his wife at a church in SoCal and he attempts to sprinkle in his religious beliefs into his coaching.  Jackson is an ordained minister.  Guys like that many times have skeletons in their closet...

He predicted playoffs when he was hired as coach last year.  What's he going to predict this summer?  That he guarantees not to fuck any strippers from Mitchell Brothers in the City...

The writer/director of SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE passed away today at 71.  I'm actually watching the film in honor of her while writing this post.   Ephron wrote a favorite film of mine WHEN HARRY MET SALLY which was directed by Rob Reiner.

Didn't watch Julia's other shows after Seinfeld, but this one is well written and I foresee Louis-Dreyfus getting movie roles from VEEP.

elizabeth falkner...

I just read she's heading to New York to open a pizzeria.  I met her at the Sports Club LA in San Francisco and she is a very nice person.  I used to go to Citizen Cupcake in the old Virgin Records to get cookies and I went to her Citizen Cake on Fillmore a few times.

I never went to Orson or her original Citizen Cake location.

Elizabeth hasn't had much success in her recent restaurant ventures.   I hope she does well in NY...

gavin newsom...

I'm proud to say I never voted for the idiot for mayor of San Francisco or Lt. Governor of Cali.  It's obvious that Current TV is hardup by giving the guy his own show.   The punk was quoted on his show that he's up in Sacramento only one day a week tops as Lt. Governor and there's no reason to be there, since Sac is so dull.   The moron is making about $170 a year as LG.   Or he's making $130K. Still much too much for a guy who thinks he'll be the next governor of California and has aspirations for President.  The asshole is a fucking joke!!   I think of Sarah Palin when I think of Gavin Newsom...

I live in San Francisco and just last weekend I was in Sacramento to watch a minor league baseball game at Raley Field- which is a fantastic venue for baseball which has a terrific view of the Tower Bridge.  The Sacramento River Cats the AAA affiliate of the Oakland A's play there and Manny Ramirez was doing his minor league rehab there.

I find Sacramento to be a interesting place to visit.   There a more than a few nice museums to visit in Sacto- Crocker Art Museum and the California Museum to name two.

god bless america the movie...

Written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait- starring Bill Murray's brother Joel Murray and a young actress named Tara Lynne Barr who I believe is going to be a star.

Crazy film which I just happened upon.  I believe it's already available via pay-per-view.  It's an indie that only lasts in the theaters for about a week.

i'll have another...

Wow!  What a race!  I'll Have Another winning the Preakness for the 2nd crown of the Triple Crown.  I didn't even watch the Kentucky Derby, now I'm definitely going to watch the Belmont in three weeks.  The last Triple Crown Winner- Affirmed in 1978.  The greatest horse of all-time:  Secretariat.

At the cinema. Man! I pay good money for viewing a movie at the theater and I'm still subjected to commercials. What the fuck!

vidal sassoon...

Just passed away at 84.   Vidal was a pioneer in hair care.  I remember buying Sassoon hair products over 30 years ago.  My current hair stylist has a few certificates from Vidal Sassoon schools.  Recently, I saw a doc about Vidal Sassoon.  An icon has left this world...

john travolta...

The bottom line I don't care whether he's gay or not.   And I'm fairly certain he's gay.  About 30 years ago,  I saw Travolta at a bookstore in Carmel hugging and kissing a young guy(probably in his early twenties). Travolta was about 28 at the time.   Me and my parents ate a restaurant in the Carmel Plaza where the defunct bookstore was.  I mentioned to our female server that I saw Travolta with the guy and she said it was pretty common knowledge around the area that he was gay.   And she made my day by saying I was better looking than JT back then.  That was a long time ago and my looks have faded...

Anyway, reading about the two lawsuits filed against Travolta, I can't help to laugh reading one accuser describing Travolta's genitalia roughly "8 inches in length" with pubic hair that was "wirey and unkempt."

There have been so may rumors about Travolta throughout the years and we'll see if he goes through the lastest unscathed...

vegemite...

Tried it for the first time last Wednesday.  I liked it.  Had it over ak-mak(the Original Armenian Cracker Bread).  Now, I'm going to buy some and keep it in the fridge.   There's a store called Australian Fair in the City that sells Vegemite and apparently they sell a bunch of it...

Australian Fair also sells Blundstone boots which are also Australian like Vegemite that I'm going to buy before Sundance 2013...

kathleen turner...

She was fantastic in BODY HEAT(1981).  She's a great actress- I like her recent stint in CALIFORNICATION.   However, she hasn't aged well.   A few years ago, I saw her at the Ferry Building in San Francisco and she looks better in person than on screen.

ugly guy of the day...

This man is extremely successful and has part-ownership in the Brooklyn Nets.   However, every time I see a pic of this guy, I can't help to say how fucking ugly he is.   Sure, I'd love to have a small portion of the dough this guy makes...

Perhaps, he's better looking in person?

beau bridges...

Just saw an interview with him on Talk Stoop with Cat Greenleaf.   Very interesting and humble guy who looks great for 70.  He's lost some weight.  He's making a career renaissance.  He's the older bro of Academy Award Winner Jeff Bridges and son of the great Lloyd Bridges.

baron davis...

I'm not a big fan of Baron, but having my football career ended by knee surgery back in 1976, I feel for Davis.  Whether Baron wants to comeback from knee surgery at 33 going into 34 next season is another thing.  One thing Baron has is a career after basketball- he's a movie producer and has had a film at Sundance about 4 years ago.

No matter what, whether I like a player or not, I never want to see him get hurt and especially not a knee.  I've lived with knee pain for nearly 36 years...

junior seau...

His suicide shocked me to say the least.   Seau was a great linebacker, although I thought he over penetrated too much, but that was his style of play- similar to fellow Samoan and USC player Troy Polamalu.

I heard a story about Seau during a certain Pro Bowl when he paid a hotel employee to drive to Zippy's to buy some plate lunches and chili for a bunch a people.   He genuinely seemed like a nice guy.

I hope his family donates his brain for research to study whether the effects of playing in the NFL for 20 years caused damage which contributed to Seau taking his life.

hideki matsui...

I'm very pleased to read that Matsui has signed a minor league contract to play for the Tampa Bay Rays.
Great pick up by Tampa.  After extended spring training- I foresee Hideki playing a lot for the Rays at DH and an occasional turn in the outfield.   Yes!!!

louboutin attacker...

It's been over a week since that attack in front of the Balboa Cafe.

I first read about it the other day. I have come to the conclusion that the person may be named _______- an area in Manhattan that has a high gay population and I'm not talking about Hell's Kitchen. And the spelling of her name is a variation of that name.

She may have been a high jumper at UC Davis.

And she may be in the radio business.

I have confirmation that the under 30 lady is a known entity at the Balboa Cafe.

Then again, the person I'm alluding to may not have been the same person who got into a tussle in front of the Balboa.

I wonder when her name will be released to the public?

eric byrnes...

He had a couple good years in the major leagues and retired two years ago.  He was 34 years old at the time.  You look at his production and his injuries and sudden fall off- you really have to believe he took steroids.

And he was on the alleged 2003 steroid list.  On television and radio, the guy sounds like a pro wrestler.

He's done himself well in broadcasting after his baseball career and I respect him for that.

I write this note about Byrnes because he's on the the Fox broadcast team of the Giants-Diamondback game.   He seems to be quite knowledgable, but his voice is annoying.

david lee...

I just read an article on yahoo sports from a fan's view and he wrote that David Lee is the most important Golden State Warrior.  I agree with him.  Yes, Lee has a bloated contract and he does have defensive shortcomings, but the guy is a gamer.  He gives his all every game.

If  often injured Australian Andrew Bogut comes back from various injuries next season, it will make Lee's job much easier.  He'll have someone to help him defensively.

The Warriors should be better next year, but it all depends if the injury prone Stephen Curry can stay healthy.   And if Golden State finally realizes that Curry isn't a legitimate point guard.  Rookie Charles Jenkins seems to have an upside and is a true point guard.

yvonne ruperti...

A very good reason to watch America's Test Kitchen on PBS.  She's the dessert/pastry/bread expert and Yvonne's written a book about baking(The Complete Idiot's Guide to Artisan Bread).  I believe she's living in Singapore at this moment in time and probably won't be on the next season of America's Test Kitchen.

I have to be honest- she's an attractive brunette and appears to have a great rack!

Whoever thinks this often injured and out of shape head case should start over Jeremy Lin is an idiot!!!!

joe lacob revisited...

The price of going to an NBA game is basically reserved for people that have a lot of disposable income.  Warriors fans have endured an inferior product for too many years.  Golden State last won an NBA Championship in 1975- I was in high school then.   The Warriors rarely make the playoffs and the 2007 We Believe team seems like it happened ten years ago, not five...

This owner chooses to be a media whore which comes with repercussions.   Lacob deserved to be booed the other night.  You live by the sword, you die by the sword.

This lockout shortened season started bad for the Warriors from the day they hired a  coach with zero experience Mark Jackson last summer and on December 9th,  when they waived Jeremy Lin in their attempt to sign an overrated big man in DeAndre Jordan.

The Warriors finally got their big man, but the guy hasn't played a full season since he was a rookie.  I hope the  Australian who went to Utah recovers from his constant injuries.

The bottom line it's tough to be a Warriors fan and this new owner doesn't make it any easier by making promises he can't keep...

joe lacob gets booed...

Probably an inopportune time at Chris Mullin's jersey retirement ceremony, but the guy deserves to be booed.  He can't shut his fucking mouth.

I would have rather seen Curry traded, other than Monta.  Curry has proven to be injury prone and he just looks soft.  With Mychal Thompson's son Klay, the Warriors have two of the softest looking NBA players I've ever seen.

Lacob talks too much and too big.  Until the Warriors prove they are a legitimate team, he should shut his fucking trap.

One of Lacob's biggest mistakes is his taking credit for Jeremy Lin.  Lin had three other offers after his 2010 NBA Summer League play.  The Warriors were lucky to sign him because of Lin's love of the Warriors.

Lacob really needs to to take a back seat, because he's becoming a joke in the NBA...

I really hope Larry Ellison can secure the Grizzlies for San Jose...

joe lacob...

The more I hear this guy talk, the more I think he's full of shit.  I can't really believe a word that comes out of the guy's mouth...

The Warriors really need to tank the rest of the season so they'll have the protected 1-7 draft pick this year.   In addition to picking up San Antonio's first round pick from acquiring Richard Jefferson, Golden State have the opportunity to have two first round picks in the 2012 draft.

larry ellison...

There are rumors that the Oracle king is in talks to buy the Memphis Grizzlies and hopefully move the team to San Jose.

Apparently, the Grizzlies has a long term lease in Memphis until 2021, but we know leases are meant to be broken.

Actually, I'd love to see the Grizzlies in San Francisco, forget about the Warriors...

beach hut cafe...

Great location on Crissy Field! Majestic view of the Golden Gate Bridge! It's been open about two years and it was my first visit. Even on a rainy day, it's a good spot. Plus, there's free wifi.

Thursday, March 15, 2012

richard jefferson...

The Warriors finally did something right by acquiring Richard Jefferson and a conditional 2012 first round pick for head case Stephen Jackson.

I'm glad the Ws don't get a second go round with Jackson.   I'd like to see Jefferson starting at small forward with Dorell Wright coming off the bench.

mike woodson...

I remember when he played at Indiana and is unrecognizable now.   Woodson looks like a different person. Mike is the interim coach of the Knicks after D'Antoni left the team on Wednesday.

Having Woodson as the coach does not bode well for Jeremy Lin.  Already, I see that he's limiting Jeremy's minutes.

Lin is a restricted free agent after this season.  He should look into signing with another team if Carmelo is still a Knick.  I really don't think Anthony and Lin can play together.

With the Bucks acquiring Monta Ellis and Epke Udoh from the Warriors, it going to be tough for the Knicks to get that 8th and final playoff spot in the East.

mike d'antoni...

Another NBA coach ruined by a petulant player. George Karl was right about Carmelo.

I hope D'Antoni gets another chance to coach in the NBA?

When his system is run correctly- it's a thing of beauty...

carmelo anthony...

He's the main reason the Knicks are in the midst of a six-game losing streak.   The Knicks are out of sync.  They aren't playing the team ball which made them so fun to watch during their win streak.  Now, Jeremy Lin is trying to appease Melo by deferring to him, which doesn't make New York a better team who are on the verge of being out of the playoffs.

My wish is that Anthony gets traded by the trade deadline(March 15).

randy moss...

Very pleased that the Niners signed Randy Moss.  This addresses a need at wide receiver for the time being. Hopefully, Moss can lead the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl?

I just want to see Randy committed to playing team football- meaning playing each down(not going through the motions), even if you're not the specific target.  Moss has to block and not disrupt team chemistry.

Moss is #5 in career touchdowns behind Terrell Owens, LaDainian Tomlinson, Emmitt Smith, and Jerry Rice.  Moss has 153 TDs.  TO has 156,  LT has 162.  I'd like to see Randy pass both of those Hall of Fame players next season to secure #3 all-time.

I'm excited!

pat kiernan...

The long time morning anchor at NY1.  I'm somewhat familiar with him from my visits to New York.  He guest hosted on Live With Kelly on Wednesday.

My prediction is that he's going to be the dark horse pick to replace Regis.

koozies...

I haven't posted anything for over a week and I'm writing about koozies- that thing you put over a can to keep it colder, especially outside in warm weather.

The bar I frequent in the City to watch Knicks games puts koozies over their $3 house special 16 ounce Bud, Bud Light cans.  I'm not much of a Bud guy, but I must admit, it's a good idea to drink a cold one in a koozie.

In the past, I found koozies unnecessary since I drank my beer so fast.  Now, I try to drink slower to save funds.

ryan braun...

From all the articles I've read on the overturning of his suspension, not one says he was found innocent of taking PEDs.  He got off because of the chain of custody involving the blood sample.

Many have said, Braun's testosterone level was at an extremely high level.  Athletes in other sports have tested that high.

The kid has had great numbers for the Brewers and I just want to see how well he plays this season.  One factor he won't have Prince Fielder protecting him in the lineup.

jeremy lin...

It was painful to watch the Heat beat the Knicks.  Lin had a terrible game shooting and was stripped twice by Miami's point guards who both dunked the ball with two hands to add an exclamation point to their steals.

Jeremy only scored 8 points on 1-11 shooting from field with 8 turnovers and only 3 assists.  On the bright side, Lin was 6-6 from free throw line, with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.

The Heat looked so much more athletic and quicker than the Knicks.  This is the third loss in Lin's streak and each loss put the Knicks under .500.

palio paninoteca...

On Montgomery and Commercial. Between Sacramento and Clay.

A good place to relax and have a cup of coffee in the City.

I used to frequent the joint quite a bit in the past.

I like sitting near the window facing Montgomery.

kris humphries...

I remember when the kid played in the McDonald's All American game.   I thought he was a good player, I didn't think it would take him so long to develop.  He probably left the University of Minnesota too early.  Humphries left after his freshman season.

Forget about his short lived marriage to that head case,  Humphries is a tough NBA player.  The guy can rebound.  He's especially tough on the offensive boards.   Kris is also averaging a double-double this season, as he did last season.  His scoring is up almost 4 points a game.

Humphries is still only 26 and he's in his 8th season in the Association.

kate upton...

19 years old and on the cover of Sports Illustrated.  Apparently, she isn't going out with Jets QB Mark Sanchez.  Whether I believe her is another story.  Sanchez likes them young.  Kate is one of the hottest SI cover models of all-time and I'm old.  I remember how hot Cheryl Tiegs was.

deron williams...

He's one of the best point guards in the NBA and he basically killed the Knicks on Monday night.  I still can't stand the bastard.  His behavior with Jerry Sloan last season was inexcusable!  Sloan signs a contract extension and quits a few days later.  What makes it worse is Williams gets traded to the Nets and the Jazz end up without both Jerry Sloan and Deron Williams.  Williams is a coach killer...

The Knicks really missed the defense of Iman Shumpert against New Jersey.

gilbert arenas and jeremy lin...

They've developed a friendship since last summer after they played against each other in an all Warriors game.  Lin was a fan of Arenas when he played for the Warriors.

Arenas says he talks to Lin every week.  He gives Jeremy advice on watching tape.  Like studying the defender behind the guy who's guarding you.

They do have some similarities because Arenas didn't get a chance to play until after 40 something games in his rookie season.  Gilbert Arenas was the Warriors 2nd round pick in 2001.

Both are decent sized point guards without great athleticism.

1 california bus...

At certain times, it's a fucking bear riding this line. Absolutely no fun...

cellphone use in restaurants...

I fucking hate it!! I'm trying to enjoy my meal and this wench is yapping on the phone next to me. That's why I always carry headphones on me...

the lin effect...

I'm even watching the Heat-Magic game to see how well LeBron is playing.  The Magic starts Ryan Anderson from CAL who I saw play live several times at Pete Newell Court.

Two weeks ago,  before Lisanity, I wouldn't have bothered to watch the game.

I'm a bigger NBA fan than college basketball which hasn't been true for me since the 70's...

jared jeffries...

I never thought much of his game after he came out of Indiana.  He's doesn't play a pretty game, but he's a hustler.  Jared plays good defense and just brings great energy into the game for the Knicks.

mark zuckerberg...

In MSG for Linsania for the game against the Mavs.

hubie brown...

I just get so much joy listening to Hubie talk about basketball.  He knows basketball better than anyone. Yes, I'll say it again- better than anyone...

It also helps he's a big Jeremy Lin fan...

And Hubie will be announcing the Knicks-Mavericks game on ABC on Sunday.  10am PST.

the nba...

Winning streaks are impressive, even if they are against less than .500 teams.  On any given night, any NBA team can beat another NBA team.  Just today, the lowly New Jersey Nets beat the Chicago Bulls.  Yes, the Bulls are playing without Derrick Rose, yet the Nets were on an 8-game losing streak.

The Knicks opponent the New Orleans on Friday night, were on a 2-game winning streak, which represented 33% of their wins at that moment in time.  After their win over New York, New Orleans has 7 wins and are on a 3-game winning streak.  That's 43% of their win total for this season.

San Antonio is on a 10-game win streak.  New Yorks' opponent tomorrow in the New Garden the Dallas Mavericks are on a 6-game win-streak.

the lin effect...

How much the rise of Jeremy Lin has effected the economy.  I'd rather stay home and save money, but I'm going to a NY sports bar in the City each time the Knicks are playing on MSG.  Madison Square Garden network, not monosodium glutamate.   I'll soon be buying the NBA League Pass on my iPhone.

My sis just bought the NBA League Pass for her home on Direct TV.

The MSG stock has gone up in value since Linsanity around 10%.   Adding over 100 million in value to the company.

I'm sure the Italian restaurant in the Meatpacking District- Valbella will do more business after Lin celebrated his father's birthday at the restaurant with his mom,  teammate Landry Fields, and I'm guessing his dental student brother.

His jersey is a runaway bestseller.

Road games have been sellouts.

It's goes on and on...   The Lin Effect...

Just announced, the new Linsanity shoe by Nike.

Even Sarah Palin loves Jeremy Lin.  She procured a Linsanity t-shirt.  I have to say I smiled after seeing the video and I not a fan of Sarah.  She does like basketball players- her booty call with Glen Rice back at the Alaska Shootout when he was at Michigan.

gary carter...

The former Montreal Expo and New York Mets catcher just died at 57.   Too young to die.  Carter was part of the 1986 World Series Champion Mets.

A Hall of Famer.  Carter also played briefly with the Dodgers and my San Francisco Giants.

Carter succumbed to brain cancer.

donald trump...

Never liked the guy.  My opinion.  I like how Nevada will never give him a gaming license.  I heard Steve Wynn can't stand the guy and that's one reason Trump is basically persona non grata in Las Vegas.  I look at the Trump Tower in Vegas and there's no gambling there and I laugh...

bleacher report...

The sports website can be interesting at times, but it's not a reliable source of sports news.  Many of the contributors don't know what the fuck they're talking about!!

This fat fuck contributor and I won't even bother to remember his name thinks Baron Davis will start when he returns.   Let's make that if Baron returns.  Baron has always had a conditioning problem.  He can get in shape, but his desire to be around the Hollywood crowd and now probably the Manhattan elite makes him soft.   He has in his past showed up for a game reeking of alcohol.  Golden State 2008.

Baron, at the very best at this point in his career, he's a backup.  If Baron can play about 15 minutes a game giving Lin some rest, than he'll be valuable to the Knicks.   We'll just have to wait and see...

And this point is really getting ridiculous- whether Melo can play with Lin.  Anthony is the one who suggested to D'Antoni that he should give Jeremy a shot.

This is back at the Cuse, but Carmelo won a NCAA Championship with a limited point guard named Gerry McNamara.   Jeremy is way better than McNamara would ever dream to be.  The point is Anthony was a winner and can still be a winner in the NBA.

Lin doesn't need to score 20 points a game.  If that is what the defense is giving him, we all know he's capable.  But, it's more crucial that he distributes and gets all his teammates involved in the flow of the game.

He's not a perfect player, but who in the NBA is?  No one.  Jeremy needs to cut down on his turnovers.  He said he'll study film.  His defense isn't great, but it's improving.  He'll work on his jumper and he's better driving to the left than most so-called experts think.

The bottom line is Lin is a worker and has the smarts to realize there's always room for improvement.

banh mi...

Vietnamese sandwiches.  I'm not a big fan, but they can be very good.

The problem is banh mi is the new sandwich rage and you're seeing banh mi shop open up all over the place.

I just tried one today and it was the most flavorless banh mi I've ever eaten.  Luckily, there was a tiny bottle of fish sauce on the table to add some much needed flavor.

There's more margin for error in banh mi, unlike sushi which really is fucked up in the states.  Every tom, dick, and harriet thinks they can open up a sushi joint.  They can, but most are really shitty!  In Japan, it takes about three years just to learn how to make the gohan(rice).

I may to try another banh mi tomorrow to get a read on what a good one is...

keith smart...

After doing a shitty job with the Golden State Warriors last year, he lucked into the Sacramento job when Paul Westphal couldn't cut it with head case DeMarcus Cousins.

Smart was a guard on Indiana's 1987 NCAA Championship team- he made the game winning shot.  Smart who I don't think is Smart doesn't seem to know how to develop guards.  He has 2011 NCAA Player of the Year Jimmer Fredette on his roster, but has played around with his minutes and on Tuesday night, Jimmer had his third DNP(did not play)- CD(coaches decison)this month.  On February 2, it was Jimmer's first DNP-CD in his career, college, high school, etc...

My UW guy 5'8 Isaiah Thomas is getting Jimmer's minutes now.   Okay, Isaiah is probably closer to 5'7.

Smart did a horrible job developing Jeremy Lin last season with the Warriors.   Hardly played him.

Keith Smart isn't an NBA head coach.  Mark my words...

iman shumpert...

His decision making on the court isn't always good, but the guy can play D.  Toronto point guard Jose Calderon was killing the Knicks(25 points, 9 assists, and 3 steals) and once Iman started guarding him,  Calderon was neutralized.

Shumpert isn't a point guard, but he will be an effective 2 guard, who can hit the 3, drive to the hole, and play great defense.   He just needs to be smarter on the court.

landry fields...

Lin and Landry were destined to play together.   Jeremy wanted to play for Stanford which is right across the street from Palo Alto High and in 2006 Landry Fields was recruited to play for Stanford by current LSU coach Trent Johnson where Fields had an excellent four year career with the Cardinal.

Trent Johnson made a big mistake by not giving Lin a scholarship and what makes it worse is his attitude is a bad about it.  All he had to say is that he made a mistake, but all I read is that he doesn't over recruit players and why didn't he walk on?   For chrissakes, Lin was right across the street!  Saving a ton on recruiting costs.

mark jackson...

He's in defensive mode after Spike Lee tweeted him thanking him for letting Lin go.

Jackson said he never saw Jeremy Lin shoot a layup.  This is cause for concern, because the day Jackson was hired he should have studied tape on every player under contract at that moment in time.  Perhaps, the lockout prohibited direct contact with the players, but come on- Jackson didn't do his homework.

The Warriors won their second straight game beating the Houston Rockets(two teams that waived Lin).  They are starting to play Udoh, which the Warriors should have done all along instead of wasting money on Kwame Brown.   At this point in time, they should give up on Biedrins, start Udoh and see if Jeremy Tyler can play.

jason whitlock...

That fat fuck is a fucking idiot!  He made a half attempt at an apology regarding a tweet that was a thinly veiled attack on Jeremy Lin.

He said he cried when Tiger Woods won a major.  Dumb shit, Tiger is half-Asian.  Actually more Asian than Black, because his father was a quarter Chinese, a quarter Native American, and half Black.

His favorite quarterback is Jeff George, so you know the fat fuck is a moron!

nba...

I haven't this much enthusiasm for the NBA in years.  I'm even watching the Bulls/Celtics game to pull for Chicago so the Knicks can get closer to the Celtics in the standing.  The Knicks are 2 games behind the Celtics.

I just don't understand why few NBA players shoot the ball off the backboard?  It's an easy shot.

No Derrick Rose out with back spasms.  Ex-Warrior C.J. Watson is a decent backup PG.  Another ex-Warrior in the game- Frenchman Mikael Pietrus.

JaJuan Johnson a rookie forward out of Purdue is having an excellent game.   A career high 12 points with 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 blocked shot.

spike lee...

He's definitely a Jeremy Lin fan now.   I heard him on ESPN Radio New York talking to Screaming Stephen A. Smith about how happy he is about the Knicks finally having a point guard.  And saying that JLin can play.  Smith is finally coming along, but I still hear apprehension in his voice.   Which says,  Stephen A. Smith is a shitty actor.

Let me get to the text message Spike sent to lousy Warriors coach Mark Jackson thanking him for letting Lin go.  Jackson didn't take the text too kindly and said something to the effect that he had never seen him play.  That's a red flag there, because when Jackson took over as coach of the Warriors he should have done research on every player currently on Golden State's roster.   Watching video and so on...

Spike Lee > Mark Jackson.

new york knicks...

The Knicks are now in the 8th and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference 1/2 game ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks.   And 2 games behind Boston for the 7th spot.

As well as Philly is playing 19-9,  I just don't think they'll keep it up.  Doug Collins is doing a great job as coach.

Realistically, the Knicks can get up to the 6th spot in the East.

Saturday, February 11, 2012

trent johnson...

The former Stanford basketball coach who failed to recruit Jeremy Lin.  Peter Diepenbrock Lin's coach at Palo Alto High which is directly across the street from Stanford on El Camino Real in Palo Alto has said that Trent Johnson misled Lin when he half-assed recruited him.  I'm not going to get into the details of the situation, but Johnson fucked up.

Johnson is now doing a shitty job at LSU and I wouldn't be surprised if he's let go after this season.

I think a lot of it has to do with integrity.   Something that isn't prevalent in big time college basketball.

greg monroe...

The Detroit Piston big man is averaging 16 points,  10 rebounds a game.   As Warrior fans know he was available when the Warriors picked 6th in 2010 NBA Draft.   Detroit picked Monroe with the 7th pick.

Epke Udoh, the Warriors draft pick is averaging 4 points, 3.4 boards a game.   On the bright side, Udoh averages 1.6 blocks per game.

Another reason the Golden State Warriors are horrible...

And Monroe leads the Pistons with 1.5 steals a game.

the nba...

I should probably change the name of this blog to linnotes...

Three months ago, I really didn't care if the Association had a season.  I really didn't.  Then Jeremy Lin was cut by the Warriors.  I quit being a Golden State fan after that move.

He gets cut by the Rockets a couple weeks later and gets picked up by the Knicks and rarely plays.   I go to the Sundance Film Festival in January and when I get back I read that Lin has a triple-double in the D-League and he starts to get some playing time for the Knickerbockers.

Now this... Unfuckingreal!  He's saved the NBA, saved the Knicks, and saved D'Antoni's job.

I only wish my niece and nephew still lived in Manhattan...

houston rockets...

I can't fault  GM Daryl Morey for waiving Lin.   The Rockets have three point guards on their roster Kyle Lowery, Goran Dragic, and Jonny Flynn.  I don't think any of the three are as good as Lin, but they shouldn't have picked him up in the first place, if they weren't going to give him a shot.

Now, the Warriors are another story.   Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry aren't true point guards.  Their combo guards.  People think Curry will be a decent point guard, but he'll never be a real point guard.  He's an undersized 2, a shooting guard.   When they cut Lin, they had no backup other than that 2nd round pick from Hofstra.   A real dumb move since Curry can't stay healthy- the guy is fragile.  Just look at him.

new york knicks...

I grew up in Seattle, Washington and the first team I really enjoyed as a kid was the Knicks team of the 70's with Walt "Clyde" Frazier,  Willis Reed,  Earl Monroe, Dave DeBusschere, Bill Bradley, Jerry Lucas, Phil Jackson, Dean Meminger, etc...   Coached by the legendary Red Holzman.   They won NBA Championships in 1971 and 1973.

Now, with Jeremy Lin on the Knicks,  I am once again a Knicks fan about 40 years later.   Okay, I liked the Knickerbockers with Patrick Ewing a bit.

The Knicks are 1/2 game out the final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference behind the Milwaukee Bucks.

david lee...

It's been rumored that David Lee is letting Jeremy Lin use his New York apartment.   I used to joke last year that the Warriors had two Chinese guys on the team Lee and Lin.   Weak joke...

Anyway, I'm no longer a Warriors fan, but I am a David Lee fan.  Yes, he's overpaid for what he is, but Golden State was willing to pay him.

Lin has credited Lee with helping him with the transition from college ball to the NBA.

joe lacob...

The lousy Warriors owner is quoted as saying he was right about Lin.   What a bunch of bullshit!  The Ws got rid of Lin on the first day of practice of this shortened season.

He should be saying that he made a big mistake by letting Jeremy Lin go.   Just like he make a big mistake by hiring clueless Mark Jackson as a coach.   Don't get me started with Kwame Brown and that Jenkins kid from Hofstra.

mike brown...

The clueless coach of the Lakers said that he knows nothing of Lin and had never seen him play.

The Lakers were one of the teams trying to sign Lin after his 2010 NBA Summer League performance.  I realize Brown wasn't the coach at that time, but it just goes to show you he hasn't down his homework.

The Lakers aren't the team they used be without Phil Jackson in the helm.

jeremy lin...

Just heard about a 9 minute audio interview with Jeremy Lin.  It started off a bit slow, but I really like the kid as a person.  I'm not a religious person, but I respect his faith.

What I learned from Lin is that when he was waived by the Warriors on December 9th, he didn't see it coming.  My god, it was halfway through the first practice of the season.  His agent had no indication.  The Warriors did what they always do- they fuck up personnel moves.

Jeremy was very disappointed in being waived, but his belief in himself and in god gave him the strength to persevere.  I'm so happy for the kid!

joe lacob...

Co-Executive Chairman, CEO & Governor of the Golden State Warriors.  Does the guy need that many titles?

I read his bio on the Warriors website and when I read he played a significant role in hiring Mark Jackson, I realize he doesn't know what he's doing regarding running an NBA team...

And reading in another publication that he wanted Stanford to recruit Lin out of Paly High is probably a half truth.  If he had any pull as a Stanford booster- Lin would have been on the Stanford roster.   You know,  Lin would have qualified academically and had the required SAT score.

And if he liked Lin so much and the story that his son knew and played ball with Jeremy is another embellishment.   If he was such Lin fan, he wouldn't have cut him to try to sign DeAndre Jordan.

The jury is still out, but this Lacob fellow is no better than Chris Cohen.   Wow!  And that's really bad...

jeremy lin...

23 points with 10 assists.  His first double-double.  A career-high in assists and leading the Knicks to their third straight win over the lowly Washington Wizards improving their record to 11-15.

He only had 2 turnovers this game.  A 5-1 turnover to assist ratio is fantastic.

Linsanity!!!!

mark jackson...

I still can't believe this guy was hired as the Warrior's coach?   Yes, he was a great point guard in the league with an unorthodox style, but that doesn't translate into NBA coaching success...

I wanted to read that Jackson admits a mistake that the Warriors waived Jeremy Lin.  All he said, he's a good guy.   Jackson didn't say that Lin is a good player.  Mark Jackson is full of shit...

I'm happy for my Rainier Beach/UW guy Nate Robinson's success with the W's.  Note: I went to Rainier Beach High and the University of Washington in Seattle.

However, the point is that Lin was waived to clear salary cap room for the unsuccessful bid for D'Andre Jordan and I believe Mark Jackson's thinking that an Asian kid can't play and couldn't beat out rookie 2nd round pick what's his name?  Charles Jenkins.  Lin is way better than Jenkins.

jeremy lin...

I'm so happy for the kid!  And now that his $788K contract is guaranteed for the rest of the season, he can get a place in Manhattan.  Not a great place with Manhattan prices, but better than sleeping on his older brother's couch and Knick's teammate/Stanford's Landry Field's couch.

twitter...

I'm not a big fan of twitter, although the company is based in San Francisco.  People can't shut the fuck up on the micro-blogging site!  For me, it's good to find out certain info, but I rarely tweet.  I'd rather rant on my blog.

Tuesday, February 7, 2012

stephen curry...

I've watched the kid enough to realize he's not a point guard.  He's a 2.  An undersized shooting guard.  The Warriors are starting two guards who are small and don't have legitimate point guard skills.

Even my Rainier Beach/UDub guy Nate Robinson isn't a legitimate point guard and he's even smaller.

I've never seen rookie PG Charles Jenkins play, but I know he isn't better than Jeremy Lin and one reason Lin was cut by the Warriors is the powers that be didn't think Lin could beat out Jenkins.  That's a crock of shit!

Another thing I don't like about Curry is that he's injury prone.   I definitely wouldn't build a team around him.

jeremy lin...

28 points 8 assists 2 rebounds 2 steals in 45 minutes in a win over the Utah Jazz in his first start for the Knicks.  8 turnovers was the only blemish to another career high in scoring by Lin.

Can't wait until Wednesday when the Knicks play the Wizards and John Wall.  A rematch of the 2010 NBA Summer League matchup where Lin outplayed Wall which led to four teams vying to sign free agent Lin.

madonna lip syncing...

She can't do a live performance without lip syncing.   Sure, she's successful and makes a ton of money, but give me a fucking break- lip syncing is horrible!

I went to a Madonna concert over 20 years ago and she lip synched most of the concert- what a waste of fucking money!

jeremy lin...

I'm so happy that Lin finally got some PT and he scores a career high 25 points in 35 minutes with 5 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals leading the Knicks over the Nets.  A win that saved coach D'Antoni's job for the time being.

I've followed Lin since I saw him play for the California state high school championship for Paly(Palo Alto) High in Sacramento against Socal powerhouse Mater Dei in 2006.

meryl streep...

I can't believe Streep hasn't won an Oscar for best actress since 1983 for SOPHIE'S CHOICE...  She's nominated this year for THE IRON LADY depicting Margaret Thatcher.   I believe Viola Davis is the front runner in THE HELP, but it wouldn't surprise me if Streep wins her second best actress Academy Award and third overall.   She won a best supporting actress Oscar for KRAMER VS KRAMER in 1980.

A year and a half ago I saw Streep at JFK.  My sister named my niece Meryl in honor of Meryl Streep.  My niece will be 30 next month.

being native to san francisco...

I am not.  I've lived in San Francisco off and on since the late 70's(my current stint 1997 to the present), but never will I admit to being native.   I am and will always be from Seattle, Washington.

I know to call San Francisco, the City, not San Fran like that fat fuck Curt Menefee on the NFL on Fox keeps calling my city.  Yes, it's my city, but I'm not a native... That idiot really pisses me off.   And it ain't Frisco.  Frisco is a town in Texas.

windy ridge cafe...

A very good veggie quiche and a warming southwestern corn chowder.

$2 mimosas all-day Saturday and Sunday from 11:30am is a good thing.

1250 Iron Horse Drive in Park City, Utah. 435.647.0880.

Stopped by the bakery behind the restaurant.  In the past, I bought mini chicken pot pies- today, I bought a croque madame.   It was wonderful!

your sister's sister...

Hadn't planned on seeing this film, but I'm glad I wait listed to see it.   Emily Blunt is one of the stars of the movie.  It was filmed in Washington State in the San Juan Islands and according to the director-a secret location.

Blunt was in attendance and looks very good in person.

Excellent acting, especially by the male lead Mark Duplass.

simon killer...

At Sundance, I can usually tell if I'm going to like a film after the director is introduced and says a few words.  Note: says a few words.  This young kid director brought up to the stage three of his producers making the intro seem like an Academy Award speech.

Didn't care for the film and two of my friends who I attended the screening with- hated it!

Some of the reviews I've read are pretty good, but I don't give a fuck what a critic writes.  Many times, they are factually incorrect in their assessment of the film.

To sum it up,  I gave up a ticket to one of the films I wanted to view in this festival to see SIMON KILLER,  because a friend said it would be one of the sleeper hits on the festival.   He's the one who gave it a lousier rating than I did.  He gave a 1 out of 4 stars.  I gave it a 2...   I should have given it a 1...

the raid...

My second movie viewed at Sundance.  An Indonesian film that is very entertaining!   Saw it on Saturday 11:15am at the MARC   The young writer/director  Gareth Evans is from Wales.  If I'm not mistaken he married an Indonesian lady and lives in that country.   I highly recommend this film!  Gareth is a very talented director and he genuinely seems like a nice guy.   The Indonesian marital art silat is practiced in this movie.

hello i must be going...

One of the four films that opened the 2012 Sundance Film Festival in Park City.  Starring Melanie Lynskey who was in 57 episodes of TWO AND A HALF MEN.   Lynskey first came into the scene in 1994 in the film HEAVENLY CREATURES that jump started Kate Winslet's career.   She played George Clooney's sister in UP IN THE AIR.

I was lucky enough to obtain free tickets to the screening at Eccles.   Directed by Todd Louiso who's known for his supporting roles in JERRY MAGUIRE and HIGH FIDELITY.   I saw his previous Sundance entry LOVING LISA who's protagonists is a gas sniffer.   That was a very odd film...

Blythe Danner and John Rubinstein portray Lynskey's character's parents.  I must say that Danner looks phenomenal for a near 69 year old.

Lynskey's real life husband actor Jimmi Simpson has a small role an awkward and boring first date that wasn't going to become a second...  In the Q&A after the film,  Lynskey said she felt awkward pulling away from a kiss from her real husband since she's never done that in real life with Simpson.

And another thing,  Louiso's wife wrote the film.  This wasn't even mentioned in the Q&A.

I wasn't a big fan of the film.  It had too many dead moments for my taste.  I drank a diet Red Bull before the screening and still nearly fell asleep a couple of times.   The look of the film was a bit dull.

However,  Louiso, his wife Sarah Koskoff, Blythe Danner, Christopher Abbott, and Lynskey all seemed like very nice people when they spoke during the Q&A.

HELLO I MUST BE GOING is part of the dramatic competition at the festival and eligible for the audience award.  Each audience member is given a ballot where they can vote on a scale of 1-4 for the film.  I gave it a 3.

One last note- Melanie Lynskey took a bunch of pictures after the Q&A with audience members and my condo mate got into that action.

morgan freeman...

The winner of the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2012 Golden Globes.

In 2003,  I had the opportunity to see Morgan Freeman at the after party for the opening film of the Sundance Film Festival in Salt Lake City.   The film is called LEVITY also starring Billy Bob Thornton.   Going into my 15th year of attending Sundance, that night at the film premiere was first and last time I saw Robert Redford.

What a great actor with a phenomenal body of work!

new york football giants...

I don't like Tom Coughlin and I don't like Eli Manning, but this team is hot going into the playoffs.  The game isn't over, but the Packers secondary is absolutely horrible even with Charles Woodson.

I hope the Giants don't go on that similar Super Bowl run like in 2007...

Even if NY wins, they have to play at Candlestick next Sunday and the Niners don't have a porous defense like Green Bay.

The Giants leading 20-10 with a Hail Mary from Manning to Hakeem Nicks TD right before halftime.   Phenomenal catch by Nicks!

Green Bay needs to develop their running attack and their receivers need to hold on to the ball.   They've had too many drops.

Game over.   New York at  San Francisco next Sunday 3:30pm Pacific Time...

picture of the day...

Basketball is a physical sport.  Jermaine O'Neal executes a perfect right hook to the temple of Vince Carter...

I remember watching O'Neal get coached at Pete Newell's Big Man Camp in Honolulu when he was a 17 year old just drafted by the Indiana Pacers.  He couldn't play at all at that time and he turned out to be an excellent NBA player.   He's still only 33 and a 15 year NBA veteran.  O'Neal really hasn't been an effective NBA player for a few seasons.  Injuries have put a damper on his career.

Carter is a shell of his former playing self at 34.

new england patriots...

It's hard for me to believe, but the Pats haven't won a Super Bowl since 2005.   Alex Smith was finishing an undefeated season 12-0 with Utah coached by Urban Meyer.  Meyer went on to win National Championships with Florida and is now coach of The Ohio State.   Smith has been a quarterback for the Niners since being picked #1 in 2005 NFL Draft.

I may be wrong, but I foresee the San Francisco 49ers and the New England Patriots in the 2012 Super Bowl...

alex smith...

I saw him in Park City during the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.  I must admit, he didn't look like a football player.  He looked frail.  Alex had just come out of a luxury lounge on Main Street where they give celebs and quasi-celebs free shit like boots, coats, etc...

Today, Alex Smith is a winner like he was when he attended the University of Utah in Salt Lake.  He's comeback from being a marginal NFL QB to a near Pro Bowl caliber player is astounding!

His touchdown pass to Vernon Davis in the final seconds to win the game versus New Orleans was a thing of beauty!    A true signature moment in San Francisco 49ers history...

darron thomas...

The quarterback from Oregon who's entering the NFL Draft after his junior season.   He's had a hell of a record as a starter and threw for 63 TDs in the past two seasons.  I personally think he should have stayed for his senior season, because I can't see him going very high in the draft.  He might not get drafted?  I could be proven wrong...

tom brady...

I wrote in a previous post that I wanted Brady to throw 5 TD passes against Denver.  He has in the first half.

35-7 New England leading Denver at halftime.

Game over...

Denver doesn't have enough firepower to overcome such a large deficit.

He ended up throwing 6.  Tying a playoff record.  45-10.

vernon davis...

THE CATCH 2.0!!!!!   30 years later!  Vernon has come a long way from getting kicked off the field by shitty ex-coach Mike Singletary to a game winning catch against favored New Orleans.  PHENOMENAL!!!

7 catches for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns!

earl barron...

That's the best the Warriors could do replacing one of the worst number one draft picks in NBA history Kwame Brown?

Barron a seven-footer who shoots under 38% from the field.   That's unbelievable!

denard robinson...

The Michigan QB who's returning for his senior season is a perfect example of a great college signal caller who's skills don't translate to the NFL.  Although, I really enjoy watching him play.

If he wants to play in the league, he'll have to change positions like Penn St's Michael Robinson who played wide receiver and mostly quarterback in college, then moved to running back and now is a full blown fullback for Seattle.

Denard Robinson is more suited to be a wide receiver or a running back in the mold of Darren Sproles.

curt menefee...

My fucking sick and tired moment...  I'm tired of fat Curt Menefee the studio host for the NFL on Fox calling my city San Francisco- San Fran.  Nobody who lives in San Francisco calls the City San Fran- nobody!

Go Niners!!

queen of versailles...

The doc is one of the opening-night films at Sundance next Thursday.   It's a tough ticket and I'll be lucky to see one of QUEEN OF VERSAILLES three other screenings in Park City.  It's the documentary I really want to see at the fest.   Pictured is Jacqueline Siegel wife of time-share real estate mogul David Siegel of Westgate Resorts.   Planet Hollywood in Vegas has a Westgate Tower.

If you want to know what the doc is about- google it.   And if you google the film, you'll find out that David Siegel is suing the festival and people behind the film for defaming his business in the Sundance online film guide.   I think it's fucking ridiculous.  The added publicity will only make this film more difficult to see and in the end it will help his business.   It's name recognition- I had never heard of Westgate before doing research on this doc.  I've noticed the Westgate Tower in Vegas, but before it reminded me of Playboy model who turned hardcore on the internet Sandee Westgate.

wade phillips...

Smart move by Bum's son the current defensive coordinator of the Houston Texans by withdrawing from an interview for the Tampa Bay Bucs head coaching job.  Wade is a much better defensive coordinator than a head coach.  Plus, he has health problems.  Houston is in the second round of playoffs- Tampa Bay is in a state of flux...

ross mirkarimi...

I used to look at his last name and not really look at it and think it was Japanese.  Obviously, it isn't...

The new sheriff in town may be charged with domestic violence.  I think it's odd that the newly-elected sheriff is involved in this type of alleged incident?

I know I didn't vote for him...

Update: the guy is expected to be charged with domestic violence battery, child endangerment and dissuading a witness.    And he did get charged...

jeff fisher...

He finally signs as head coach of the St. Louis Rams.   For awhile there, I thought he was holding both Miami and St. Louis hostage.

I personally would rather go to Miami.  The difference is the Rams have a supposed franchise quarterback in Sam Bradford, but the jury is still out in my estimation...

I'm a bit pissed at Fisher for not taking the USC job when it was offered to him- giving punk kid Kiffin the opportunity to get a huge undeserved contract and being able to recruit top notch athletes.  Now the punk kid is thriving at USC...

Don't really see the Rams competing against the Niners for seasons to come...

mark jackson...

The new Golden State Warriors head coach who talks big, but can't back it up is now 3-7 in 10 games which is about 15% of the shortened 66 games season.

I thought winning 30 games was a stretch when the season started, now 20 might not be within reach.

With new ownership, I thought the Warriors would bring in a name coach with experience, not a name ex-NBA player who has been in the broadcaster/analyst for the past several years.

Yes, Golden State doesn't have the players to win consistently in the Association.   Their win over the Heat the other night was a aberration.

The East Bay is full of dysfunctional pro teams starting with the Oakland A's, the Raiders, and the Golden State Warriors.

With no coaching experience you would think Mark Jackson would be more humble.   Being cocky and having a horrible record isn't a recipe for success.    Keith Smart is  a better coach than Jackson.  The guy at least paid his dues...

tim tebow...

I fucking sick and tired of reading about the guy.   He had a hell of a game against the Steelers.  Threw long passes that I didn't think he had to the ability to complete.  It does help to have a big speedy receiver like Damaryius Thomas.

I just hope the Patriots dominate the Broncos on Saturday and I won't have to hear about that religious fanatic until next season.

I really don't believe sports and religion mix.   For example, you have two zealots on opposite teams praying to god for his team to win.   There's only one winner and one loser in football.   Does god prefer the winner over the loser- I think not.

One of the big problems is the media is giving this guy too much press.   Not just sports media, but fluffy shows like Access Hollywood.

In the beginning of the season, I thought he got too much negative press for being a quarterback that doesn't fit the mold of a prototypical signal caller.    Now, he's all over the place for having a decent season, but not a season that merits all this attention.  Denver went 8-8 in the regular season and was victorious over an old beat up Pittsburgh team in their backyard in the first game of the playoffs after losing three straight to end the regular season.  Does that warrant so much attention?

Tom Brady, please throw about 5 TD passes with the Patriot's maligned defense playing good enough for the win.  That's all I want...

mike silver...

A writer for Yahoo Sports who used to work for Sports Illustrated.   A CAL grad and a CAL fanatic.  I generally enjoy reading his column.  I don't always agree with the guy, but he's better than most of the sports writers out there.

He just wrote about Mark Davis the owner of the Raiders being over his head.  I basically agree with him.
Silver seems to be a fan of recently fired Hue Jackson.  I liked Jackson until his team fell apart at the end of the season.  Watching the Raiders led by Jackson was very frustrating.  They blew too many big leads.  That can be attributed to bad coaching.  His tirade after losing to the Chargers was ridiculous.

Hue Jackson needs to reestablish himself as an offensive coordinator somewhere before getting another opportunity as a head coach.  I don't see it happening for awhile.

The Raiders have weapons on offense and their defense is suspect.   Winston Moss the current assistant head coach/linebacker coach of the Green Bay Packers is the early favorite to replace Jackson since newly hired GM Reggie McKenzie was the director of player personnel of the Pack.  And both are former Raiders.

captain kangaroo and mark davis...

Mark Davis isn't Al Davis' son, but Captain Kangaroo's offspring...

For those who are too young to remember CK.  He was on CBS for nearly 30 years ending his run in 1984.    Then he was on PBS for another 9 years or so.   A kids show that wasn't on my watch list.

Mark Davis has the basic bowl cut.  You would think inheriting the Raiders from his late father- he could afford a better hair cut.  Absolutely horrible!

It must be tough to be a Raiders fan...

stacy keibler...

One thing for sure she has some long legs.  And when I think of her name it reminds me of Keebler cookies, a company which used to advertise heavily on television, yet I haven't seen an ad for years.  The product is fair at best.

I saw Stacy more than a few years ago hosting an event in the City.  She's decent looking in person, but she was chomping on gum all evening.  A definite turnoff.  Then again, not enough to kick her out of bed in some parallel world that something like that is probable...

I don't think Keibler is the one for George Clooney.  The affair will help her career- whatever that is?  Wasn't she a professional wrestler?   Is she an actress?  She has many credits on imdb.com.  A model- that's more feasible with those long legs and body...

In heels, she towers over Clooney.  I'd say Clooney is about 5'10, maybe 5'11.  Keibler is at least that tall. With some Louboutin's she's about 6'4- 6'5.

The over and under on the Clooney-Keebler romance is 9 months in my view....

tropisueno...

Located on Yerba Buena Lane in the City. Excellent Happy Hour from 4-6 Monday- Friday.

I get the $2 taco truck style tacos. And their $5 El Ranchero Tequila(100% Blue Agave) Margarita.

I'm on my third margarita and feeling no pain...

hue jackson...

Just fired as head coach of the Oakland Raiders.   This comes after the Raiders hired Reggie McKenzie as their new GM.  Let's make it clear- this isn't the offensive lineman who used to block for OJ in Buffalo.  This Reggie McKenzie is an ex-Raider and has had success as Director of Football Operations for the Green Bay Packers.

New general managers like to bring in their own head coach.  And Hue Jackson basically fell apart after the Raiders lost to the Chargers which saved Norv Turner's job with the San Diego Chargers.

I personally believe Jackson should have gotten the opportunity to coach the Raiders next season, but his antics at the end of the season and the trade he made for Carson Palmer which could result into two first round draft choices for the Cincinnati Bengals sealed his fate.

papa john's...

It appalls me that such overt racism exists in this country and in Manhattan where there are so many different races living and working on that island.   There are hundreds of pizza joints in Manhattan and the young Korean lady eats a pie at a Papa John's.  I find that appalling too.   Then again, I've never had a pizza at Papa John's.  And to be perfectly honest, I've tried many slices of pizza and whole pizzas in Manhattan and a small percentage of them were any good.

Papa John's will forever be linked to the "lady chinky eyes" receipt.   Instead of throwing footballs in his commercials, the real Papa John should produce a commercial that condemns racism and offers discount on pizza for a limited time.  I'm sure it will drum up business for all the Papa John's stores throughout the country.   And it would be good PR...

trader joe's turkey gravy...

I'm a big fan of Trader Joe's- a big fan, but that stuff they're selling as turkey gravy in a carton is absolutely horrible!  Wow!  It's that bad!

The gravy they make and use at Rainbow Drive-In in Honolulu  has a secret ingredient- dried shrimp?

I guess the first mistake I made was thinking turkey gravy would be an adequate substitute for brown beef based gravy for a loco moco(a hamburger patty and an egg over easy over rice with gravy).

marty schottenheimer...

I just read he's being interviewed for the vacant Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coaching job.   Marty is 68, but the guy was fired after posting a 14-2 regular season mark with the San Diego Chargers in 2007 and never got another head coaching job in the NFL.  The UFL doesn't count.  Yes, they did lose in the playoffs.  I don't think any NFL coach has been fired after a 14-2 regular season record?

His son Brian, currently the maligned offensive coordinator of the New York Jets just interviewed for the Jacksonville Jaguar job.  The guy doesn't deserve it.

I believe the NFL is shying away from young punk head coaches.   Going back to Don Shula's son David - they just don't work out.  Recent petulant young NFL coaches that did horrible are my favorites(I'm being facetious)Lane "Baby" Kiffin and Josh McDaniels.

Tampa, give Marty another shot- he deserves it and he can hire his son as an offensive coordinator and groom him for a head coaching job if and when he deserves it...

debby boone...

I can't believe how fine she looks @ 55 years old.  She's Pat Boone's daughter and she's known for her hit  YOU LIGHT UP MY LIFE back in 1977.   I just saw her singing the Carpenters' iconic song CLOSE TO YOU on PBS and she did it quite well.

rodney harrison...

He has no business being an analyst on Football Night in America on NBC.  He's so fucking negative!  Harrison was once one of the dirtiest players in the league and now it appalls me how he criticizes players who he once played with.  A certain amount of criticism is good, but Harrison goes overboard.  Man, I'd rather have Tiki Barber with Tony Dungy...

Friday, January 6, 2012

bill o'brien...

New head football coach at Penn St.  My first question- who in the fuck is he?   His claim to fame is the shouting match he had with Tom Brady as offensive coordinator with the New England Patriots.  I don't get why GMs, Athletic Directors, University Presidents overestimate assistant coaches with the Patriots.
Charlie Weiss did a shit job with Notre Dame and we'll see how he does with Kansas.  Eric Mangini had some early success with the Jets, but he flamed out with the Browns.  Punk kid Josh McDaniels did a horrible job with the Broncos.  Romeo Crennel who was a defensive coordinator didn't do well with Cleveland, but I think he'll do okay if he gets the Chief's job.  Terrible hire by Penn State.

rob lowe...

The guy is still very good looking at 47.   He maintains a youthful appearance.  Lowe has really come a long way from his controversial period when he did the film BAD INFLUENCE and a sex tape scandal with an underage girl.   This was nearly 25 years ago.

david shaw...

Young Shaw generally did an excellent job replacing Jim Harbaugh as head football coach of Stanford, but his conservative decisions that culminated in relying on a shaky redshirt freshman to win the Fiesta Bowl with a chip shot field goal was inexcusable!  It was a college game, not the NFL where there are reliable place kickers.
