walt hazzard...

The UCLA legend was the first starting point guard for the Seattle Supersonics back in the 1967-1968 maiden season for my hometown team that is now the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Hazzard passed away yesterday at 69.   Walt was a muslim and went by his Islamic name Mahdi Abdul-Rahman for awhile, but for professional reasons resorted back to his birth name.

As people I grew up respecting are passing away- it makes me realize how short and precious life is...

jerry sandusky interview...

With Bob Costas. My first thought was why?

I just heard the telephone interview and Sandusky doesn't sound like he's telling the truth.

Yes, his voice sounds creepy and tired.

He admits to showering with the youths, but he said it was horseplay and not sexual.

Why in the fuck does an old white guy want to shower with young boys? Just the thought is disgusting!

This Sandusky predator lives in a fantasy world and is lying through his teeth.

great football weekend in the bay area...

Oregon @ Stanford today and the New York Football Giants @ decrepit Candlestick playing the Niners on Sunday.

And to a lesser note- the Oregon State playing CAL today @ AT@T Park where the tickets are way overpriced! Tedford will never lead the Bears to where Harbaugh and now Shaw is taking the Cardinal.

joe paterno...

I was never a Penn State fan.  I've respected that the school developed some of the best linebackers of all-time.  I've never liked their plain uniforms without names on the back of the jerseys.  When ex-Florida State coach Bobby Bowden and Joe Pa were going neck and neck for the all-time Division 1 win record, I was pulling for Bowden.  From 2000-2005, Paterno's record 26-33, most coaches for a high profile program would have been fired during that period, but Joe Pa survived even when the powers that be of Penn State suggested he retire.  You have to realize that Paterno turned 74 during the 2000 season.

It's unfortunate that Paterno will forever be tainted by Sandusky.

jerry sandusky...

I've read quite a bit about the ex-Penn State defensive coordinator who has been charged with child molestation and one thing that sticks out in my mind is why did he retire at 55 when he was basically one of the most respected assistant coaches in college football?  It's been written that he quit after learning from Joe Pa that he wasn't going to replace him as head coach of Penn State.  I'm speculating that the guy was forced out because of alleged incidents that were reported starting from 1994.  Sandusky retired in 1999.

I hate to admit this, but those things made with mystery meat are quite tasty and it makes it better that the McRib is on a limited run. It will be gone before you know it...

brad pitt...

Excellent in MONEYBALL the film, although he's about a half foot shorter than the real Billy Beane.

But, it's the movies- Meryl Streep is about a foot shorter than the late Julia Child.

carlos pena...

Although, he hit batted under .200 in 2010. Pena hit 248 home runs after being traded from the A's in 2002 with a high of 46 dingers in 2007. Pena was also in the World Series with the low payroll Tampa Bay Rays.

moneyball the movie...

Bullshit line by the fictional Peter Brand- Kevin Yokoulis walks more than anyone in baseball other than Barry Bonds. Totally incorrect.

On a positive note- a cameo by the beautiful Lisa Guerrero.

Also, Brad Pitts tells the fictional Brand -text me the play by play. Who in the fuck texts in 2002?

Art Howe must be pissed to have a short fat fuck Philip Seymour Hoffman playing him.

An overhead shot showing Oracle Arena next to the Oakland Coliseum in 2002 was incorrect. It didn't become Oracle until 2007.

billy beane...

Most overhyped and overrated GM in professional sports...

One of his dumbest moves was trading Carlos Gonzalez and keeping injury prone Ryan Sweeney.

Another bad move, not hiring Ron Washington as a manager. Sticking with his buddy Bob Geren who was 42 games under .500 for 4 1/2 seasons.

Signing perpetually injured Eric Chavez to a huge long term contract.

The list goes on and on...

I'm writing this note while watching the "fictional" MONEYBALL.

the girl with a dragon tattoo...

Why in the fuck did they remake a very good Swedish film?

MONEY...

Not artistic integrity.

phil simms...

On Sirius/XM, the ex-Giants quarterback turned analyst said that Stanford's Andrew Luck is a bit overhyped because his arm strength may not be there.

I believe arm strength is overrated.  Look at JaMarcus Russell- that guy can throw the ball a mile and at 26, he's out of the league.  Ex-Cal QB and current Raider Kyle Boller could throw a football on his knees from the 50 yard line through the goal post.  Boller is a marginal backup in the league.

Joe Montana didn't have the strongest arm around, but he was a leader and accurate.

One thing I've seen with Luck is that he can roll to the left(he's a right hander) and throw across his body to the right with accuracy and zing.

Simms was an excellent quarterback and he's generally a very good analyst with an ornery side to him.  I believe he's incorrect in his assessment of Luck's arm.

Stanford has had a history of great quarterbacks- Frankie Albert to John Brodie to Jim Plunkett to John Elway and now Andrew Luck.

wayfare tavern...

I just saw Willie Brown's comment in the Comicle about Wayfare's fried chicken.  For once, I agree with him.  I used to enjoy watching Tyler Florence on the Food Network.

The fried chicken at Wayfare Tavern is $22 and served without anything.  No sides at all.  No veggies, no potatoes.  Nothing...

I've eaten at Wayfare more than a few times and I don't foresee going back to dine with so many other options in the City.

To me, the fried chicken at Wayfare Tavern is fair at best...

virgin america...

I love the airline, but give me a fucking break, their website has been down or not up to date for nearly a week.  I wonder how much business they lost in this time period?

And another thing, why doesn't the airline have an iPhone app?  Southworst has had an iPhone app for quite some time...

One thing I learned is their maximum baggage weight is now 50 pounds without paying an overage fee.
Before it was 70 pounds.

jet blue...

Generally, I've only heard good things about the airline, but twice in less than four years Jet Blue has stranded passengers on the tarmac for around seven hours.  My goodness, you would think the airline would have learned from their previous incident.

In September of 2010, I was flying Virgin America out of JFK(where the first Jet Blue tarmac fiasco happened) and we were stranded on the tarmac for about two hours.  Virgin America made sure to pull the plane back into a gate and give passengers the opportunity to rebook for free or wait until the flight was clear for departure.

I've always wanted to fly Jet Blue, but I've never gotten around to flying the airline since most of the routes that I'd want to fly are handled by Virgin America.  Now, with this second incident- I don't foresee flying the airline...
