film...
I am a movie fan. I just haven't written about film in this blog. I will say that I have attended the Sundance Film Festival ten years in a row. Now, that's what I consider a loyal advocate of independent film...

a rainy day in the city...
Well, we do need the rain. I'm originally from Seattle, WA, so I'm used to the rain. What I don't like about rainy days is the umbrellas. When you walk around the City like I do, you must constantly dodge umbrellas.

two pac 10 schools in the elite eight...
This proves that the Pac 10 is the best basketball conference in the NCAA. Now, UCLA needs to beat Kansas on Saturday and Oregon must upset defending champions Florida on Sunday to reach the Final Four. If this scenario comes through- UCLA will play Oregon in one of the semifinal games.

gelato...
Tango Gelato on Fillmore between California and Pine has great gelato. I usually go for the mint chip flavor. Today, I had coconut. It was good, but I'm a mint chip guy. It's best to go with your favorite...

a free basketball game...
Me and a buddy were lucky enough to get free tickets to the Warriors game versus the Timberwolves on Friday night. Golden State is finally @ full strength and they are a very entertaining team to watch. For the moment, the Warriors are in the eighth and final playoff spot in the West. BTW, Golden State defeated Minnesota led by Monta Ellis' 24 points.

march madness...
The highlight of my day was seeing Duke get beat by VCU. I wanted to watch the UCLA-Weber State game, but CBS decided that the viewers on the West Coast should watch Duke instead after UCLA started to pull away. ESPN could handle the early round games much better since they have several channels including ABC. Being a true Pac 10 backer, I was also happy that WSU won. Several so-called experts predicted an upset by Oral Roberts. Stanford proved they didn't belong in the tournament.

olive oil...
Today, @ the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market I purchased a tiny 5 oz. bottle of olive oil for $5. That's a $1 an ounce! I won't mention the name of the vendor since I haven't tasted it. McEvoy Ranch which has a store in the Ferry Building is wonderful olive oil and costs well over a $1 an ounce. I was lucky enough to purchase a bottle in January for 20% off which turned out to be about $1 an ounce. The other olive oil store with a permanent spot in the Ferry Building is Stonehouse California Olive Oil. I use the house oil as my everyday olive oil. Today, I learned something from the Stonehouse website, you should use up your olive oil within two months after opening it.

one of my favorite spots in the city...
The Ferry Building. A good day is when I purchase a sourdough baguette or a pain epi from Acme Bread Company. Then I venture over to Cowgirl Creamery and sample some cheeses and buy two different varieties. With cheese and bread in hand, I head to the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant and order a carafe of wine. After I enjoy the wine, cheese, and bread, I finish off my Ferry Building excursion with a piece of chocolate from Recchiuti Confections. Now, that's a wonderful day...

pac 10 mens basketball tournament...
I'm patiently awaiting the UW-ASU game. My Huskies need to win the tournament to get into the Big Dance. I'm happy the first round is broadcast on channel 410 on digital cable. Once in a blue moon paying the high cost of Comcast cable is worth it.
la sportsclub in sf...
I've been a member for over four years and I still don't know the correct name of my club. I guess it's The Sportsclub/LA in San Francisco- which is a pain in the ass to say. I just call it the gym or the club.
On Monday I saw a first. A guy had the audacity to run on the treadmill without a shirt. Why is it that guys with the ugliest bodies are more apt to expose themselves than anyone else?
Using cellphones in the workout area and in the locker room is a big pet peeve of mine. When I first joined, the banning of cellphones in the locker room and workout area was just implemented. Apparently, certain individuals were taking pictures of naked men in the locker room with their cellphones...
One more rant. I hate it when people don't put back their weights. That is part of the process of weightlifting.

the first tuesday of the month...
The major art galleries in San Francisco are free on the first Tuesday of the month. Today, I visited SFMOMA(San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.) The regular exhibits are gratis and I paid a mere $2.50 to view the Picasso and American Art exhibit. Picasso was a big influence to many modern artists including de Kooning, Lichtenstein, and Pollack. I especially enjoyed when a Picasso was placed next to a work by Lichtenstein.
