Models in this day and age, don't have tan lines.
Back in 1972, tan lines were the norm. Playboy's Miss March Ellen Michaels.
What got me on the subject, a facebook friend named Rebecca Avalon who posed that question on facebook and on her website.

Glad I was a little bit of inspiration for you! Although my blog is down at the moment (still trying to decipher line 17 of my Wordpress Custom theme)the result of my comments were:
Gen Xers (both women and men) preferred tan lines
Gen Yers (all female responses) did not like tan lines.
